H.E. Mrs. Mona Quartey is a finance professional with over 30 years of experience in broad economic strategy, treasury, risk management, and equity and debt raising across corporate and government environments. She holds a BSc in Development Planning, an MBA in Finance, and an LLM in International Commercial Law.
Mrs. Quartey is particularly well-versed in the banking and mining industries, having served early in her career as the Group Treasurer of Ashanti Goldfields, where she was instrumental in the company’s public listing on the London, Ghana, and New York stock exchanges. From senior financial executive roles at American Express and Citibank NA to her service as Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Mrs. Quartey has demonstrated strong leadership in advancing economic development and driving growth across key sectors.
Her expertise in managing both fiscal and monetary policy was notably demonstrated when the Government of Ghana achieved zero financing from the Bank of Ghana in 2016. Mrs. Quartey has extensive governance experience, having served on several public and private sector boards, including the multinational mining corporation Golden Star Resources PLC (now Chifeng Gold).
In recognition of her achievements in the mining sector, Mrs. Quartey was honored in 2018 by Women in Mining UK as one of the “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining.” In 2023, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 9th Ghana Mining Industry Awards presented by the Chamber of Mines (GH).
She is a Fellow of the West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM).
